Transfer Guides—formerly known as Baccalaureate Degree Plans (BDPs)—are specialized roadmaps developed by the University of North Carolina (UNC) system universities. They are designed to ensure North Carolina Community College (NCCC) students experience a seamless transfer process.
These strategic guides support students pursuing pathways outlined by the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement (CAA) or other specific Uniform Articulation Agreements (UAA). By following a Transfer Guide, you can select meaningful community college coursework that simultaneously satisfies your associate degree requirements and counts directly toward your bachelor’s degree completion at your chosen university.
Important Note for Fine Arts Students: All updated Transfer Guides are now fully accessible to students pursuing transferable associate degrees, including the Associate in Fine Arts (AFA).
Statewide Fine Arts Articulation Agreements
Articulation agreements establish formal partnerships between higher education systems, protecting your hard-earned credits when you move from a community college to a four-year institution.
The UNC System AFA Articulation Agreement
Originally ratified in 2017 by the North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS) State Board and the University of North Carolina System, this institutional agreement secures clear, standardized pathways for community college students entering public university Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) fine arts programs.
The NCICU Uniform Articulation Agreement (AFA to BFA)
This dedicated agreement was jointly created by NCCCS Associate in Fine Arts in Visual Arts programs and signatory members of the North Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities (NCICU). It focuses specifically on facilitating smooth transfers for students aiming to transition from an AFA in Visual Arts to a private university Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) program.
